In 2015 Ireland signed the United Nations’ Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This is a document set out by the United Nations, that contains 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These are goals for countries to reach by 2030 and they tackle everything from social issues like poverty and gender equality to environmental issues like life on land and life below water.
The document contains a promise to Leave No One Behind. Governments signed up to deliver the Goals and to ensure that every country, group and individual benefits equally from the progress and realisation of the goals.
No Goal will be met unless it is met by everyone. It means putting the needs and interests of the furthest behind first.
